Art in the Academy

Our students in Years 7, 8 and 9 have been busy fine tuning their art skills!

Year 7

Our Year 7s are currently studying the Elements of Art and have been applying their newly acquired skills using shading and the ability to transform 2D shapes into 3D forms. They have looked at value, form and colour and created some excellent pieces of art over the last few weeks!

We also explored using chalk and charcoal to create form on mid tone paper. It was messy but the class produced some excellent results and showed a good knowledge of highlights and shadows! Keep it up Year 7!

Year 8

Year 8 have been studying Cultural Art and have looked at Aboriginal art. Geckos are believed to be lucky within Aboriginal culture and these pretty reptiles should not be disturbed. There is an Aboriginal belief from the Northern Territory that a giant gecko brings the thunderstorms and monsoon rains of the wet season. We have explored this through creating a highly detailed grid drawing where the Year 8s showed brilliant concentration!

Year 9

Year 9 Peaches – A peach is often seen as the symbol for truth and holds significance in folk lore. They have created a variety of observational drawings and experimented with media such as chalk pastels and identifying colour intensity and hues. They have done a fantastic job at trialling new media and techniques.

Year 9 Cherry Blossom – Year 9 have started their option course by studying Cultural Art and focusing on Japanese Art. We created a tonal pencil drawings of Cherry Blossoms and applied ours skills in shading and value. Well done Year 9!
