Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Our Curriculum

At Oasis Academy Lister Park, our curriculum opens up the minds of our young people to become life-long learners, creating a culture of excellence. We offer a broad and balanced, knowledge rich curriculum which is both rigorous and robust. It is designed to ensure the very best academic outcomes for our children and young people using the latest research into how the brain and memory works. Knowledge is sequenced, increasing in difficulty over time so that learners connect this to the knowledge they already have. Our Curriculum Aims

Our curriculum aims to develop character, competence and community in all of our young people.  At Oasis Academy Lister Park, we believe that students should have opportunities to increase their wider experience and cultural capital. We aim to offer all students the chance to contribute to hub projects, play a musical instrument, attend a residential trip, as well as visiting theatres, art galleries, museums, universities and places of work.

The curriculum focuses on the personal development of our children and young people by developing their character and teaching them how to keep themselves safe. Students reflect on the Oasis 9 Habits and develop these valuable aspects of their character so that they achieve a greater sense of wellbeing and can contribute to society and become good citizens. As inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, this is reflected in the curriculum design and delivery. We build aspirations for all and take every opportunity to ensure our students learn about equality, diversity and inclusion.

Here at Oasis Academy Lister Park, we believe that homework is an integral part of a child's education. Homework assists students in improving their academic skills and in the development of study skills. Homework involves parents/guardians in their child's education and helps them to monitor progress. Students develop values such as responsibility, independence, time management and perseverance. Homework takes different forms such as research, quizzing and online learning platforms such as Hegarty Maths and Formative.

Marking and feedback

You child will receive regular feedback on their work across their subjects. This may be verbal feedback during lessons, written feedback in their books and folders, or online using one of our learning platforms. We encourage peer-to-peer feedback as a means to building positive communication skills and ensuring our students become reflective, independent learners. Feedback is as valuable, if not more so, than an overall grade. We want our students to know what their next steps are so that they can truly achieve their potential.

Options Process

Here at Oasis Academy Lister Park, we are passionate about ensuring our young people are not only given a choice in their future but feel empowered and informed about what their options are.

In the spring of Year 9, students are invited to think about their option choices and are given all the information they need to feel fully informed. A Pathways evening is held to which parents and carers are invited to attend with their child, and, with plenty of guidance and support from our experienced staff, students are encouraged to select subjects which they both excel at and enjoy. Course descriptions are provided, as well as forms that should be completed and returned to the academy detailing the child's preferred subjects.
