What do I need to do now to prepare for my chosen next stage?
If you are intending to join OALP Post 16 you will need to complete the transition material provided and submit this to the curriculum leader for that subject. It is recommended that, even if you plan to take up a place at another provider, to complete the transition material to gain an insight into the courses you wish to study.
Below are a range of learning opportunities available to you over the course of the summer term.
- Transition work in your chosen A Level/BTEC subjects: Our guidance is that you complete the transition material set for any of the A Levels or the BTECs that you would like to study. Please do this for any subjects that we are offering at OALP and those that we are currently not. By doing this, your teachers will be able to provide references based on your performance and make recommendations for further study.
- Post 16 wider reading lists: along with the transition material you will be given access to a wider reading list. Please read around the subjects you are wanting to study. This will prepare you for the subjects you study by giving you an insight into the content.
- Future Learn (https://www.futurelearn.com/): is currently the UK's biggest MOOC provider. MOOC’s are open online courses that you can do free of charge. Future learn offer free short courses, and 'programs' which are made up of a number of free courses to give you more in-depth knowledge on a subject.
- EtonX (https://etonx.com/): You can request access to a valuable EtonX course, ‘Creative Problem Solving’, which has been provided by Eton College free of charge during lockdown. Other courses available are CV Writing, Interview Skills, Making an Impact, Resilience, Research Skills and Writing Skills.
- Access to the START careers and university website including careers info linking subjects to jobs roles. https://www.startprofile.com/
- Free First Aid qualification from the Virtual College: Restart a Heart https://www.virtual-college.co.uk/prepared
- TED Talks in areas of academic interest (https://www.ted.com/talks)
How will the transition process work?

You will need to download and complete the tasks set for the all the A Levels/BTECs you wish to study.
What do I do once I have completed the transition material?
Once completed you must email the completed work to the curriculum/lead leader for that subject, the list of names and email addresses can be found below. This must be submitted to the correct teacher by the 17th July 2020.
The lead teachers will assess the quality of the work that is produced and together with what information they already have in terms of ability and attitude towards learning, will write a recommendation on the suitability of you studying the subject at Post 16.
